Our Advocacy Priorities
Katy ISD is one of the premier school districts in Texas, serving more than 95,000 students across Harris, Fort Bend, and Waller counties. Maintaining that standard of excellence requires proactive community oversight and a commitment to three foundational pillars:
1. Teacher Retention, Compensation, and Benefits
Simultaneous Net-Pay Reporting
Requiring district administration to present salary schedules and health insurance premium rates concurrently during budget workshops, providing total transparency on educators' true take-home pay.
Benefits Transparency and Oversight
Expanding teacher representation in health benefits design and reviewing pharmacy contracts to lower out-of-pocket prescription and dependent coverage costs.
Protecting Planning Time
Protecting instructional planning time so educators can focus on lesson delivery and student intervention rather than excessive non-instructional administrative duties.
2. Fiscal Stewardship and Contract Scrutiny
Line-by-Line Contract Audits
Auditing major recurring operational expenditures, including interlocal agreements and external advisory memberships, to guarantee maximum return on every tax dollar.
Transparent Budget Baselines
Requiring district leadership to utilize verified post-pandemic data rather than outdated projections when evaluating major operational decisions.
Classroom-First Allocations
Establishing clear targets ensuring that Maintenance and Operations (M&O) tax dollars flow directly into campus-level instruction and student services.
3. Academic Standards and Campus Safety
Dedicated Campus Security
Supporting the Katy ISD Police Department and dedicated armed security personnel at every campus, while holding state lawmakers accountable for fully funding statutory safety mandates.
Workforce and Credential Readiness
Expanding access to state-approved Industry-Based Certifications (IBCs) through facilities like the Miller Career & Technology Center so every student graduates prepared for college or high-demand careers.
Transparent Boundary Planning
Ensuring Attendance Boundary Modifications are communicated early and transparently, balancing campus utilization while maintaining stability for students and families.
